Eleni Odysseos

Eleni Odysseos works often shown on their own or accompanied by an audio piece, explore isolation, control, abjection, power structures in globalised economies and the fragility of our bodies as they are trapped within systems of self-discipline and control. She has been thinking about meaning-making in response to our current global reality of confusion and chaos, and how that resonates to the production of contemporary painting: the symbolism of images and how an accumulation of various signifiers can generate disarrayed narratives that refuse the production of a collective assumption, an act of resistance in an information-driven society. Dying birds, muddy backgrounds, suggestive landscapes, decaying flowers and deteriorating bodies act as signifiers that, when positioned together, generate abstract tales where time and space collapse. Often lies a suggestion of a recurring, unresolved event, drawing the viewer into ominous anticipation of an impending occurrence in a post-apocalyptic landscape.
