Kara Chin is a British artist, born in Singapore and raised in the UK. Her Practice spans cross animation, sculpture, painting, sound, cooking and horticulture, to create multimedia installations concerning evolving theories of reality and simulation, future technologies, human and non-human perspectives.
Kara is currently based in Newcastle, undertaking the Woon Prize residency hosted by Northumbria University and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. This year, her work has featured in Bloomberg New Contemporaries at the Liverpool Biennial and South London Gallery. As well as, the Manchester Contemporary Art Fair, London Art Fair, and an exhibition ‘Chop Leisure’ with IMT Gallery. Kara is part of a collective called ‘Opolis’ alongside 4 former cohorts from Slade School of Art, where she recently graduated with a Ba in Sculpture. In addition to her Art practice, Kara has run workshops for children and families at South London Gallery’s Sunday Spot sessions, on the theme of introducing stories and characters into artworks, as well as ceramic workshops and discussions with Fine Art students at Northumbria University.
